2020 festival postponed
Hello friends, for obvious reasons we‘re postponing this year’s festival. This means that the event at the Rio Cinema on 6th June will no longer take place. Don’t worry we’ll be back though. We’ll share details about a new date as we have it. In the meantime we have decided to keep submissions for this year’s festival open until further notice, so filmmakers can continue to submit films beyond the 30th April deadline.
Now in its fourth year, Hackney Shorts showcases the work of established and emerging filmmakers capturing the rapid changes taking place in our world. We are open for submissions for the 2020 festival.
The London Borough of Hackney is a microcosm of these changes: a diverse, vibrant community made up of many intersecting and overlapping groups. It's an unique culture finding itself under threat from the impact of social change, rampant globalisation, conflicts of interest and environmental crisis.
We receive entries from filmmakers around the world whose lenses are focused on local issues whilst simultaneously addressing the global issues that affect us all.
“The films that Hackney Shorts has inspired run the full range from gritty to surreal to poignant to hilarious. But what they all have in common is the vibrant human energy of this extraordinary place.”
